Is there any downtime associated with rhinoplasty?

rhinoplasty

For several years now, rhinoplasty has been one of the most requested cosmetic procedures in the US. Many people decide to have nose surgery because they want to improve their appearance, or correct a problem with their nose. But what’s the procedure like and is there any downtime associated with rhinoplasty.

Rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure that is done to reshape the nose and improve your profile. Adjusting the proportions of the nose also brings proper balance to the features.

Nose surgery is usually performed on an outpatient basis under local or general anesthesia. Rhinoplasty may be done using either the open or closed technique. With the closed technique all the incisions are made within the nostrils, but with the open approach an additional incision is made on the columella, which is the tissue between the nostrils.

Is there any downtime associated with rhinoplasty?
There will certainly be some downtime after rhinoplasty, but the duration varies depending on the extent of surgery. It’s therefore important to discuss this with your plastic surgeon before the operation, so that you are aware of the expected downtime.

There is generally some swelling and bruising after rhinoplasty. The swelling usually occurs on the side of the nose and can take several months to resolve, but most of it should be gone within 14 days. A cast or dorsal splint may be applied to the exterior of the nose after surgery, and is left in place for about 7 days.

Most patients are able to go out in public about 7-10 days after surgery.
