How Long Is Recovery From A Nose Job

By Experts in Plastic Surgery · Comments (0) · Wednesday, December 29th, 2021

If you have decided to get a nose job because you don’t like how your nose looks,  you’re probably anxious to see the final results and get back to regular life as quickly as possible.  However, it takes several months for the nose to settle after surgery, so it’s important to have realistic expectations about recovery.   But how long is recovery from a nose job?

Rhinoplasty

What Is A Nose Job?

A nose job or rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure that reshapes the nose.  This may involve adjusting the shape or size of structures such as the bridge or nasal tip.  Rhinoplasty may also be performed for functional reasons to correct a birth defect or breathing problem.

Rhinoplasty is typically done on an outpatient basis under IV sedation.  The incisions for a nose job are generally made inside the nose, but some corrections may also require external incisions, which are made in the columella.   The columella is the tissue that separates the nostrils.

How Long Is Recovery From A Nose Job

When planning for recovery after a nose job, it’s essential to understand that no two surgeries are alike.

A nose job is customized to meet the specific needs of each patient.  Therefore, recovery will vary based on the extent of the work performed.  Patients who have minimal work done may heal faster than those who require more extensive surgery.  Recovery time after rhinoplasty also depends on age, overall health, and the body’s healing ability.

Generally, recovery after a nose job takes 2-3 weeks, but patients should take all the time they need to heal properly.

Recovery after revision rhinoplasty may take longer than it did for the initial procedure because significant scar tissue may be already present.

What To Expect During Recovery

After surgery, patients will experience some swelling, bruising, and tenderness around the nose and eyes.  Most of the swelling should resolve after 2 weeks, but residual swelling around the nose may persist for up to one year.

There may also be some pain and discomfort for the first few days after surgery, but pain medication is prescribed.

Patients should relax as much as possible during the first week of recovery and sleep with their head elevated, to minimize bruising and swelling.

After surgery, a splint is placed inside the nostrils to protect the new shape and provide support for the nose while it heals.  The splint is usually removed after about 7 days.

Most patients can resume light activities within 5-7 days and return to work after seven days.

Exercise can be resumed about four to six weeks after rhinoplasty.

When To Expect Full Recovery

Changes in the appearance of the nose occur gradually in the months following surgery as the swelling subsides.  Swelling is sometimes substantial because of the technique used to perform surgery and the extent of the operation.  As a result, it can take up to one year for the nose to settle into its final shape.

Rhinoplasty Recovery Tips

  • Don’t blow your nose.  Blowing your nose too soon after a nose job can cause bleeding and delay healing.
  • Eat a healthy diet.   Eating the essential nutrients that promote healing can speed up recovery.
  • Minimize sun exposure.  The nose is very sensitive after surgery, and too much sun can lead to sunburn and cause scars to become darker.

When you visit your plastic surgeon for a nose job consultation, you will be provided with a recovery timeline based on your surgical plan.

To ensure a smooth recovery after a nose job, it’s best to carefully follow the post-surgical instructions of your plastic surgeon, keep all your post-op appointments, and report any complications to your surgeon immediately.

How Much Does Rhinoplasty Cost?

By Experts in Plastic Surgery · Comments (0) · Wednesday, May 19th, 2021

If you are interested in rhinoplasty, it’s only natural that you’ll be concerned about the cost.  Before undergoing rhinoplasty, you certainly have to find out how much you’re going to have to pay, since the procedure is not covered by insurance when done for aesthetic reasons.  So how much does rhinoplasty cost?

rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty Basics

Rhinoplasty, also known as a nose job is performed to change the shape and size of the nose and enhance the overall appearance of the face.   Each year thousands of men and women undergo rhinoplasty to improve the look of their nose.   Surgery often involves making the nose smaller, refining the tip, or removing a bump on the bridge of the nose.

How Much Does Rhinoplasty Cost

According to the 2019 statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), the average cost of a rhinoplasty is $5,409.   However, since rhinoplasty is customized to fit the specific needs and cosmetic goals of each patient, surgery can sometimes cost as much as $8,000.

The surgeon’s fee is another vital component of the cost of rhinoplasty, and it varies based on the experience and qualifications of the surgeon.  The extent of the procedure also impacts the final price of rhinoplasty, as some cases are more complex than others.

Other factors that affect the cost of rhinoplasty include:

  • Anesthesia fees
  • Surgical facility fees
  • Cost of post-operative medications
  • Geographic area

Financing Rhinoplasty

Cosmetic rhinoplasty is generally not covered by health insurance, but if there is a functional issue it may be covered by the medical plan.  However, medical credit cards like CareCredit make the cost of rhinoplasty more affordable to patients on a budget.

The only way to get an accurate cost of rhinoplasty is to schedule a consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon.   The surgeon will perform a comprehensive evaluation of your nose, recommend a customized treatment plan, and provide a detailed quote.

What Is Recovery From A Rhinoplasty Like?

By Experts in Plastic Surgery · Comments (0) · Friday, March 5th, 2021

Have you decided to have rhinoplasty, but you’re concerned about what to expect during recovery?   That’s understandable because knowing what can arise after surgery will help you properly prepare and ensure the smoothest possible post-operative journey.

What Is Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty, also known as nose reshaping surgery, is a procedure that is done to enhance the appearance of the nose or improve its function.  This may involve changing the shape or size of the nose or correcting an injury or structural abnormality.

Rhinoplasty is an outpatient surgery that is typically performed under general anesthesia.  Surgery can take anywhere from 1½ to 3 hours depending on the complexity.

What Is Recovery From Rhinoplasty Like?

Swelling and bruising of the nose, cheeks, upper lip, and the area under the eyes is normal after rhinoplasty.  The swelling and bruising will persist for several weeks, but keeping the head elevated on 2-3 pillows can help to minimize it.

Rhinoplasty

A splint or packing is usually placed inside the nose to protect the nose and assist the healing process.   The packing in the nose will be uncomfortable and cause nasal congestion.  The stuffiness will improve significantly when the packing is removed after about 5-7 days.    Patients are advised to get as much rest as possible in the days following surgery, because it is a critical part of the recovery process.

Most patients can return to work about 7-10 days after rhinoplasty.   Normal activities can also be resumed at this time, but strenuous activities should be avoided for at least 6 weeks.

In order to achieve optimal results after rhinoplasty, patients should carefully follow the instructions of their plastic surgeon, and attend all scheduled post-operative visits.

Will a nose job leave noticeable scars?

By Experts Admin · Comments (0) · Tuesday, January 7th, 2020

Have you decided to get a nose job? Like most people considering nose surgery, you’re probably worried about scars from the procedure. But will a nose job leave noticeable scars.

What is a nose job?

A nose job, known medically as rhinoplasty, is a surgical procedure that is typically done to alter the shape or size of the nose. However, it can also be done to adjust functional issues e.g. to fix a deviated septum or repair an injury (click here to learn more).

Will a nose job leave noticeable scars?

A nose job will not leave noticeable scars for the most part, because the incisions are made inside the nostrils.

A nose job can be performed using the closed or open technique. With the closed method, all the incisions are made inside the nose, so there is no visible scarring. Incisions are also placed inside the nose with the open technique, but there is also a small external incision made on the columella, which is the tissue between the nostrils. However, the scar from this incision is almost indiscernible, since it is on the underside of the nose.

When rhinoplasty is performed by an experienced, board certified plastic surgeon patients can expect to get very good results, and scarring will be minimal. In addition, there are advanced surgical techniques that can be used to make scars less noticeable.

Minimizing scarring after rhinoplasty

After rhinoplasty, patients can minimize scarring by avoiding the sun as much as possible, because excess sun exposure can darken the scar. They should also clean the incision site as instructed by their plastic surgeon, and avoid any strenuous activity that would strain the nose.

5 Tips for Rhinoplasty Recovery

By Experts Admin · Comments (0) · Thursday, December 26th, 2019

Have you decided to undergo rhinoplasty over the holidays, so you will have enough time to recover? Recovery after rhinoplasty takes time, because there is usually some bruising and swelling that can take several months to fully resolve. However, there are some things you can do to avoid unnecessary pain and complications after rhinoplasty.

5 tips for rhinoplasty recovery

  1. Keep your head elevated
Patients are advised to keep their head elevated for at least one week after rhinoplasty. They should avoid sleeping on the side of their face, but should instead sleep on their back with the head on a pillow.
  2. Get plenty of rest
It’s important to get as much rest as possible, so that your body gets all the time it needs to heal. Strenuous activities such as jogging, swimming, and aerobics should be avoided for at least 2-3 weeks.
  3. Avoid blowing your nose
Nasal stuffiness is common in the days and weeks following rhinoplasty, due to swelling of the nasal tissues. However, patients are advised to resist blowing their nose, because doing so will disrupt healing and can cause bleeding.
  4. Don’t smoke
Patients are also advised not to smoke before or after rhinoplasty. Smoking can constrict blood vessels and delay proper healing.
  5. Maintain a healthy diet
Eating a balanced diet and providing the body with the nutrients it needs, can help to speed up the healing process. A diet rich in protein and vitamins, specifically vitamins A and C, also helps the body fight off post-surgical infections.

What should I look for in a rhinoplasty surgeon?

By Experts Admin · Comments (0) · Friday, December 7th, 2018

If you are considering rhinoplasty, achieving the best aesthetic outcome depends on choosing a surgeon with the necessary skills and aesthetic sensibilities. Rhinoplasty is a complex, demanding surgery, so the surgeon must have the ability to execute all aspects of the operation well. So what should you look for in a rhinoplasty surgeon?

Rhinoplasty, also referred to as a nose job, is a procedure that is done to change the appearance of the nose, or improve its function (learn more).

When looking for a rhinoplasty surgeon, it’s essential to do some research, to find the one that’s right for you. Look for a facial plastic surgeon with advanced training, and significant skill and experience performing rhinoplasty.

  1. . Qualifications and training in facial plastic surgery: Facial plastic surgeons devote their time to facial surgeries, and most perform nose surgery routinely, which makes them the ideal choice for rhinoplasty. Facial plastic surgeons are certified by the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, and the American Board of Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery. Otolaryngology relates to surgery of the ears, nose and throat.
  2. . Skill and experience: Since rhinoplasty is such a difficult procedure, it requires a lot of surgical experience. Choosing an experienced surgeon will ensure that you minimize the risk of complications, and get the best possible results. A skilled, experienced rhinoplasty surgeon will be comfortable with the different surgical approaches, and be able to recommend the appropriate technique for you.
  3. . Advanced training in rhinoplasty: Surgeons with advanced training in rhinoplasty are better equipped to manage any complications, and deliver optimal results.
