Should I get an upper or lower blepharoplasty?

Should I get an upper or lower blepharoplasty?

By Experts Admin · Comments (0) · Friday, January 24th, 2020

Would you like to rejuvenate your tired-looking eyes, but you’re not sure if you need to get an upper or lower blepharoplasty. Both procedures can correct aging eyelids and give you a youthful, more rested appearance. But which is the right one for you.

Blepharoplasty

Blepharoplasty, also known as an eyelid lift, is a procedure that is done to rejuvenate the eyelids. Upper blepharoplasty corrects sagging upper eyelids, and lower blepharoplasty gets rid of bags and wrinkles beneath the eyes. Blepharoplasty can be done on the upper or lower eyelids, or on both.

Should I Get an Upper or Lower Blepharoplasty?

Whether you should get an upper or lower blepharoplasty, depends on the type of correction required to rejuvenate your eyelids.

If you have excess skin on the upper eyelids that affects your field of vision, and gives you a tired appearance, an upper blepharoplasty may be right for you. During upper blepharoplasty the surgeon will remove the excess skin causing sagging in the upper eyelids. Fat on the upper eyelids may also have to be repositioned to enhance the appearance of the eyelids.

If you have undereye bags that may you look exhausted all the time, lower blepharoplasty can get rid of the excess fat beneath the eyes that bulge and push against the skin. During a lower eyelid lift the surgeon will remove or reposition excess fat around the eyes, and trim away the extra skin.

Deciding between an upper or lower blepharoplasty is not always easy, and there are times when a combination procedure may be the ideal solution. In order to make an informed decision, it’s best to consult with a board certified plastic surgeon.
