What are the options for earlobe repair and rejuvenation?

By Experts Admin · Comments (0) · Sunday, March 10th, 2019

Are your earlobes no longer plump and youthful? If your earlobes have become thin and wrinkly, you may be a good candidate for earlobe repair or rejuvenation. Just like the other parts of the body, the earlobes can show age over time, but it’s possible to tweak them so that they look youthful again. So what are the options for earlobe repair and rejuvenation?

Earlobes can become thin and sag with age, but they can also get elongated due to the excess pressure and weight caused by consistently wearing heavy earrings. The earlobes may also become stretched because of wearing wide ear gauges and plugs. While thinning earlobes can be fixed with surgery, patients don’t always have to go that route, because non-surgical earlobe rejuvenation is possible.

Earlobe repair and rejuvenation

The earlobes are susceptible to damage that includes stretching, tearing, and thinning. Earlobe repair and rejuvenation helps to fix all these issues.

Earlobe repair is a minor surgical procedure done under local anesthesia, which can address issues such as torn earlobes and keloid scars. Earlobe repair can be performed using different techniques; it really depends on the aesthetic needs of the patient. Earlobe rejuvenation involves the use of injectable fillers to plump thin, wrinkly earlobes.

Earlobe rejuvenation with injectable fillers

Earlobe rejuvenation is a simple, virtually painless procedure that restores lost volume to thin, slack earlobes. Juvederm and Radiesse are the injectable fillers most commonly used for earlobe rejuvenation.

Juvederm is comprised of hyaluronic acid, which is a naturally occurring substance in the body, and Radiesse is comprised of calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres suspended in a watery gel carrier.

Rejuvenating the earlobes with Juvederm is especially beneficial, because the hyaluronic acid in the filler attracts water, and this expands and plumps the earlobes, providing remarkable rejuvenation.

The fillers are injected into the earlobes to make them plumper, and give them a lifted, more youthful appearance. Fillers can also reduce the size of an earring hole that has been stretched over time, but it is only a temporary fix.

Earlobe rejuvenation with fillers takes about 30 minutes to complete, so it can be easily done in the lunch hour. When done right, the results look completely natural, as fillers should only be placed in areas that have thinned.

What to expect after treatement

After earlobe rejuvenation with fillers, there may be some slight bruising and swelling, but this does not prevent patients from going right back to their normal activities.

The results of earlobe rejuvenation are immediate and typically last 6-8 months. After treatment the earlobes will be noticeably firmer and thicker, and earrings will fit comfortably. Patients wanting to maintain the results of earlobe rejuvenation will have to repeat injections about every 6 months.

Benefits of earlobe rejuvenation

Earlobe rejuvenation is the intervention needed to prevent thinning lobes from tearing. It also provides the extra support the earlobes need when heavy earrings are being worn.

Earlobe repair for keloid scarring

Keloid scarring on the ear is typically caused by a wound or injury, and even piercing of the ears can put the lobes at risk for keloid scarring. Keloids are nodules that form as a result of injury to the skin. The skin produces scar tissue in response to an injury, but excess tissue is sometimes produced, which spreads so much that it forms a small mass or nodule.

When removing keloids, the surgeon will first inject the keloid with steroids to make it softer, so that it can then be surgically removed.

Torn earlobes can also be fixed with a simple surgical procedure. After surgery, doctors advise patients to recline in a chair for a few hours to minimize post-operative swelling. The ears can be re-pierced within a few weeks of surgery.

Are you a good candidate?

Earlobe repair and rejuvenation is the ideal option for healthy men and women that need to repair a thin or torn earlobe, or correct any type of wound to the ear.
