Cheeks sag as we age and we lose that youthful, cherubic appearance, because the skin becomes thinner and less elastic. The face also loses volume due to the deflation of the fatty tissue beneath the skin. However, it is possible to restore volume in your cheeks with a cheek augmentation.
What is Cheek augmentation?
Cheek augmentation is a surgical procedure that is designed to restore volume to flat, saggy cheeks. It involves the use of implants to fill in hollow cheeks, thereby creating a big improvement in the appearance of the face.Implants add facial volume and also lift the face.
Types of Implants
Implants are made from different materials, but silicone implants are the most popular. Silicone implants are used for a variety of applications, and are considered very safe.
The incisions for the cheek augmentation can be made inside the mouth, or under the chin. The implants are then placed over the cheekbone by way of the incisions made. The area is sutured using dissolvable stitches. Cheek implant surgery takes less than one hour, and is generally performed on an outpatient basis with either local or general anesthesia.
After surgery there will be some swelling and bruising, but this should only last for about 5 days. Patients will be given instructions, so that they know how to care for the incision sites. Most patients are generally able to resume light duties within a few days of surgery.
How long do the implants last
The implants are securely fitted over the bone, so they generally last for a long time.
