The eyes are one of the first places to show signs of age. As we get older, the skin surrounding the eyes becomes thin and lax, causing the eyelids to droop.Droopy eyelids create a tired, worn-out appearance, but you can look years younger with an eyelid lift. An eyelid lift is a common procedure that is performed to restore fullness and roundness to the eyelids, and rejuvenate the face.
An eyelid lift or blepharoplasty can be performed separately on the upper eyelid and lower eyelids or on both.
Upper eyelid lift: Loss of elasticity in the upper eyelids creates excess skin, and results in the hooding of the upper eyelids. There are cases in which the hooding is so severe that it interferes with vision. In addition, fat often bulges from behind the eyelids.
The incision for upper eyelid surgery is generally made in the crease of the eye. The surgeon will remove the extra skin and fat via this incision. This procedure is often done in conjunction with a browlift, which raises the brows, thereby improving results.
Lower eyelid lift: This is usually done to address puffiness in the lower eyelids, as well as eye bags. There are several techniques that can be used to reduce the aging of the lower eyes, which is caused by excess fat.A lower eyelid lift can also correct wrinkles in the lower eyelids.
The incisions for the lower eyelid lift are usually made in the inside of the lower eyelid, along the soft tissue lining. During traditional surgery any extra fat below the eyes is removed. However, there are nownewer techniques in which the fat is repositioned or transposed.
