Tummy tuck surgery
Tummy tuck surgery or abdominoplasty is a surgical procedure that is done to make the abdomen leaner and firmer. It involves the removal of excess skin and fat from the abdominal region, as well as tightening of the underlying muscles. The navel may also need to be repositioned.
Abdominoplasty is performed under general anesthesia and is often done on an outpatient basis, so patients can go home a few hours after surgery. More extensive surgery may have to be done in a hospital, and require an overnight stay.
How long is the recovery for a tummy tuck?
Recovery after tummy tuck surgery takes about 10-14 days. However this may vary, depending on the volume of liposuction, and the number of areastreated. Patients are generally advised to rest as much as possible for the first few days after surgery, and limit all activity. A compression garment is worn during this time to minimize swelling, and speed up healing.
Patients with sedentary jobs are usually able to return to work within 2 weeks, but strenuous activity should be avoided for at least 6 weeks.
