Are you thinking about getting a nose job? If you’re like most people, you’re probably so focused on surgery that you haven’t thought about what the recovery will be like. However, there are important things to consider such as wound care, activity restrictions, and of course, downtime. So how long is recovery from a rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty also known as a ‘nose job’ is a surgical procedure that is performed on the nose, in order to optimize facial harmony. It is typically done to adjust the shape and/or size of the nose, but may also be carried out to resolve a functional problem, or repair an injury.
Nose surgery is usually performed on an outpatient basis under twilight anesthesia. The incisions for surgery are generally hidden inside the nose, but external incisions are sometimes needed in the columella, which is the tissue between the nostrils.
How long is recovery from a rhinoplasty?
The recovery period after rhinoplasty typically lasts for 1-2 weeks, but there may still be some swelling and bruising after that time. Most of the swelling subsides within 2 weeks, but residual swelling may remain for several months. In fact, the nose can take up to 6 months to take shape and look normal again.
Patients are also advised to follow the post-operative instructions of their plastic surgeon to make certain that they recover as anticipated, and get the pleasing results they desire.
