If you have a double chin, then you know it’s very difficult to reduce it with diet alone. Liposuction can address it, but if you’d prefer not to undergo a surgical procedure, there’s now a non-surgical option called Kybella that can give you a smoother, more contoured jawline. But how does Kybella work to eliminate a double chin.
What is Kybella?
Kybella is an injectable treatment that is FDA approved for the treatment of cases of moderate to severe submental fat, or fat below the chin. It is comprised of deoxycholic acid, which is a molecule that occurs naturally in the body, and is used to break down and digest dietary fat.
How does Kybella work?
A tiny needle is used to inject Kybella into the subcutaneous fat layer below the chin. The solution breaks down the walls of the fat cells, and this causes them to dissolve. The treated fat cells are then metabolized by the body over the following weeks, resulting in the gradual reduction in the submental fat. The fat cells that are treated are gone for good, so the double chin will shrink.
It typically takes a series of 2 to 4 treatments with Kybella to achieve optimal results. Each sessiontakes 15-20 minutes, and results are long lasting.
Are there any side-effects
Common side effects of Kybella include bruising, swelling, numbness, and pain. There are more serious side effects that can occur, but these are greatly minimized when the procedure is done by an experienced medical practitioner trained to administer Kybella.
