What is upper eyelid surgery?

Upper eyelid surgery is a procedure in which excess skin is removed from the upper eyelids. It is an outpatient procedure that is done under IV sedation with local anesthesia. The incisions for upper eyelid surgery are made within the natural crease of the eyelids, so there are no visible scars when the incisions heal.

Upper eyelid surgery elevates the eyelids, giving the eyes a more open, alert appearance.

Recovery after upper eyelid surgery

After upper eyelid surgery, patients can expect to experience moderate swelling and bruising, which can last for up to 7 days. There may also be some pain which is usually slight, and can be resolved with pain medication. Patients are generally advised to take 5-7 days off work.
