How Long Is Recovery From A Nose Job

By Experts in Plastic Surgery · Comments (0) · Wednesday, December 29th, 2021

If you have decided to get a nose job because you don’t like how your nose looks,  you’re probably anxious to see the final results and get back to regular life as quickly as possible.  However, it takes several months for the nose to settle after surgery, so it’s important to have realistic expectations about recovery.   But how long is recovery from a nose job?

Rhinoplasty

What Is A Nose Job?

A nose job or rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure that reshapes the nose.  This may involve adjusting the shape or size of structures such as the bridge or nasal tip.  Rhinoplasty may also be performed for functional reasons to correct a birth defect or breathing problem.

Rhinoplasty is typically done on an outpatient basis under IV sedation.  The incisions for a nose job are generally made inside the nose, but some corrections may also require external incisions, which are made in the columella.   The columella is the tissue that separates the nostrils.

How Long Is Recovery From A Nose Job

When planning for recovery after a nose job, it’s essential to understand that no two surgeries are alike.

A nose job is customized to meet the specific needs of each patient.  Therefore, recovery will vary based on the extent of the work performed.  Patients who have minimal work done may heal faster than those who require more extensive surgery.  Recovery time after rhinoplasty also depends on age, overall health, and the body’s healing ability.

Generally, recovery after a nose job takes 2-3 weeks, but patients should take all the time they need to heal properly.

Recovery after revision rhinoplasty may take longer than it did for the initial procedure because significant scar tissue may be already present.

What To Expect During Recovery

After surgery, patients will experience some swelling, bruising, and tenderness around the nose and eyes.  Most of the swelling should resolve after 2 weeks, but residual swelling around the nose may persist for up to one year.

There may also be some pain and discomfort for the first few days after surgery, but pain medication is prescribed.

Patients should relax as much as possible during the first week of recovery and sleep with their head elevated, to minimize bruising and swelling.

After surgery, a splint is placed inside the nostrils to protect the new shape and provide support for the nose while it heals.  The splint is usually removed after about 7 days.

Most patients can resume light activities within 5-7 days and return to work after seven days.

Exercise can be resumed about four to six weeks after rhinoplasty.

When To Expect Full Recovery

Changes in the appearance of the nose occur gradually in the months following surgery as the swelling subsides.  Swelling is sometimes substantial because of the technique used to perform surgery and the extent of the operation.  As a result, it can take up to one year for the nose to settle into its final shape.

Rhinoplasty Recovery Tips

  • Don’t blow your nose.  Blowing your nose too soon after a nose job can cause bleeding and delay healing.
  • Eat a healthy diet.   Eating the essential nutrients that promote healing can speed up recovery.
  • Minimize sun exposure.  The nose is very sensitive after surgery, and too much sun can lead to sunburn and cause scars to become darker.

When you visit your plastic surgeon for a nose job consultation, you will be provided with a recovery timeline based on your surgical plan.

To ensure a smooth recovery after a nose job, it’s best to carefully follow the post-surgical instructions of your plastic surgeon, keep all your post-op appointments, and report any complications to your surgeon immediately.

Benefits of Breast Augmentation

By Experts in Plastic Surgery · Comments (0) · Wednesday, December 29th, 2021

Would you like to improve the size or shape of your breasts?  Breast augmentation may be the solution for you.  Breast augmentation is one of the most in-demand plastic surgery procedures in the US and is popular among women of all ages.  But what are the benefits of breast augmentation?  Let’s take a look at some of them.

5 Benefits Of Breast Augmentation

  • Enhances Breast Volume And Body Contours

Breast augmentation uses implants to add volume to the breasts, and this makes them fuller and firmer and enhances body contours.  Breast augmentation can be customized to fit the unique shape of each patient, so that body contours look more defined after surgery.

  • Restores Breast Fullness After Pregnancy

Pregnancy and breastfeeding take a toll on the breasts.  Some women experience a decrease in volume, which causes the breasts to look deflated and saggy.  Breast augmentation restores fullness and makes the breasts look more youthful.

  • Improves Breast Symmetry

Most women have some degree of breast asymmetry, which makes one breast differ in size or shape.  Breast augmentation can improve the evenness of the breasts and create better symmetry using implants.

  • Enhances Femininity

Breast augmentation offers obvious physical benefits, but there are also psychological benefits to be gained from undergoing the procedure.  Some women with smaller breasts don’t think they look as feminine as they should.  However, after having breast augmentation, they usually feel more feminine and attractive.

  • Boosts Confidence And Self-Esteem

Breast augmentation is a great way to boost confidence and self-esteem.  Many women who are dissatisfied with the appearance of their breasts experience increased self-esteem after breast augmentation.  Feeling more confident also gives them the jumpstart they need to pursue life goals and achieve success in other areas.

Women with small breasts find it easier to shop for clothes after breast augmentation because the change in size moves the breasts closer to the average bustline. As a result, they look more flattering in clothes such as tops, dresses, and swimsuits.

Breast augmentation also enhances cleavage and improves the projection of the breasts.

Breast Augmentation Basics

Breast augmentation is designed to increase the size of the breasts and make them shapelier.  Surgery typically involves the use of saline or silicone implants.

Saline implants are filled with sterile saltwater, while silicone implants contain silicone gel.  Breast implants are available in different shapes and sizes.

How Is Breast Augmentation Performed?

Breast augmentation is usually performed on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia.  Surgery takes 1-2 hours to complete, but this may vary depending on the extent of the procedure.

Breast augmentation can be done using different incision techniques including, the periareolar incision, inframammary incision, and transaxillary incision.

Breast implants may be placed either above the chest muscle (subglandular placement) or below the chest muscle (submuscular placement).

Who Is A Good Candidate For Breast Augmentation?

Ideal candidates for breast augmentation are women looking to:

  • Enhance naturally small breasts
  • Restore  breast volume after pregnancy and breastfeeding
  • Improve the appearance of the breasts after significant weight loss

Candidates for breast augmentation should also be non-smokers, over 18 years of age, and in good health.

Breast augmentation is often combined with a breast lift to make the breasts perkier and restore youthful contours.

Choosing A Plastic Surgeon For Breast Augmentation

If you are considering breast augmentation, it is crucial to choose a qualified, experienced board-certified plastic surgeon who understands the latest techniques and can provide subtle, natural-looking results.

Your plastic surgeon will explain the procedure, determine if you are a suitable candidate, and tell you about some of the other benefits of breast augmentation.

How Should I Prepare for My Facelift?

By Experts in Plastic Surgery · Comments (0) · Sunday, December 19th, 2021

If you’ve decided to have a facelift, making adequate preparations will help minimize anxiety as surgery day approaches.  A facelift can turn back the clock and restore a more youthful appearance.  But if you want to get the quality results you desire, you should take steps to make sure you are thoroughly prepared for your facelift.

Facelift

What Is A Facelift?

A facelift or rhytidectomy is a procedure that reduces signs of aging on the face and neck.  It smooths lines around the nose and the corner of the mouth, reduces jowls, and tightens loose skin on the face and upper neck.

How Should I Prepare for My Facelift?

Although getting natural beautiful-looking facelift results is every patient’s goal, it is crucial to take steps to safeguard your health during and after surgery.

Here are 5 important prep steps you need to take before a facelift:

  • Stop Smoking And Drinking Alcohol

Cigarettes and alcohol can thin your blood and increase the risk of bleeding during surgery.   These products should also be avoided after surgery, as they can cause complications and impair healing.  Consequently, doctors typically advise patients undergoing surgery to refrain from smoking and drinking alcohol at least 72 hours before and the procedure.

  • Avoid Certain Medications And Herbal Supplements

You should stop using aspirin, anti-inflammatory medications, and herbal supplements before surgery, as they can increase the risk of complications during the operation.  Herbal supplements have immense health benefits, but when it comes to elective surgery, they can cause adverse effects.  Herbal supplements can react with anesthesia, increase blood pressure, and thin the blood.  During the pre-operative consultation, it is crucial to let your surgeon and anesthesiologist know the medications and supplements you are taking.

  • Get Lab Tests And A Medical Evaluation

Your surgeon will ask you to get lab work done about 2 weeks out from surgery.  These tests help identify problems that could complicate surgery and determine if you are healthy enough to undergo the procedure.  The surgeon will also review your medical records and general health to assess your readiness for surgery.

  • Take Care Of Your Skin

Before facelift surgery, you should adopt a comprehensive skincare regimen to promote optimal skin health.   This should include daily cleansing to get rid of dirt and other pollutants, and exfoliating to remove dead skin cells and allow new, healthy skin to emerge.  Moisturizing regularly and using sunscreen should be done to protect your skin.   It’s also essential to take care of your skin after surgery, as this will accelerate healing and help maintain the results.

  • Prepare Your Home For Recovery

Arrange to have someone stay with you at home for the first few days after surgery to assist with household chores.   Set up a comfortable space that includes all your aftercare essentials, where you can rest and recover.  Stock the pantry with fresh, healthy foods such as fruits and vegetables, which will help the healing process.   Also, be sure to meal prep so that you don’t have to cook during the initial recovery period.

Before your facelift surgery, it will be beneficial to focus on taking care of your body and making plans to ensure recovery goes as expected.  It’s also a good idea to fill pain prescriptions early so the medication will be available when you arrive home after surgery.  In addition, ask a friend or family member to take you to the operation and drive you home.

During your facelift surgery consultation, your surgeon will give you instructions about the preparations needed to get ready for surgery.   Be sure to follow these instructions closely so that the operation goes as smoothly as possible.

What Is Otoplasty?

By Experts in Plastic Surgery · Comments (0) · Saturday, December 4th, 2021

Are you frustrated by the appearance of your ears because they protrude outward? If you keep your hair long and wear hats to cover your ears to avoid unwanted attention, otoplasty may be a good option for you.  Otoplasty is a transformative procedure that yields both physical and emotional benefits.  But what is an otoplasty?

What Is Otoplasty?

Otoplasty or ear surgery is a surgical procedure that adjusts the shape, size, or position of the ear.  The goal of otoplasty is to improve the balance and symmetry of the ears while maintaining optimal facial harmony.

Otoplasty often involves pinning back ears that stick out noticeably from the sides of the head, so it is also known as ear pinning surgery.  Ear pinning surgery is common among children with prominent ears, as they are often teased by peers and feel embarrassed or self-conscious about their ears.

Ear surgery is done on the visible or outer part of the ear, known as the auricle, which consists of cartilage covered with skin.   Children as young as  6 years can get otoplasty done, as the ears are fully developed by this age.

Otoplasty may also involve reducing oversized ears so that they appear more natural.  This is referred to as ear reduction, as it involves resizing the ears by removing excess cartilage.

Depending on the changes the patient desires, otoplasty may include both ear pinning and ear reduction.

Otoplasty is a safe, effective procedure that involves minimal risk.  The results are noticeable once the dressings are removed.

Who Is A Good Candidate For Otoplasty?

Children are good candidates for otoplasty because their ears are very flexible and therefore easy to shape.  However, ear surgery is also suitable for adults who have protruding or abnormally large ears they are unhappy with.

Otoplasty is also a good option for people with misshapen ears resulting from a birth defect or trauma. Adult candidates for otoplasty should be non-smokers and in good health.

How Is Otoplasty Performed?

Otoplasty is an outpatient procedure that takes about 1-3 hours to perform and is done under local anesthesia with sedation.  However, general anesthesia is typically used on children.

The incisions for otoplasty are made in the back of the ear in the crease between the ear and head.  This allows the surgeon to remove or reshape the cartilage and then reposition the ear closer to the head.  The cartilage is secured with internal stitches.

What To Expect After Surgery?

A dressing is put over the ears after surgery and remains in place for a few days.  Patients may experience mild swelling, pain, and numbness, but these side-effects should resolve within 3-5 days.

Benefits Of Otoplasty

  • Boosts Confidence

Children and adults with prominent ears often feel self-conscious about the appearance of their ears.  This often leads to low self-esteem, psychological distress, and embarrassment.  Otoplasty is a life-changing procedure that improves self-image and boosts confidence.

  • Promotes Facial Harmony

Otoplasty promotes facial harmony because it adjusts the size and shape of the ears.  Improving the symmetry of the ears increases harmony between the facial features and enhances natural beauty.

  • Permanent Results

When otoplasty is expertly performed by a skilled surgeon, the results should last a lifetime.  After the cartilage is trimmed and reshaped during surgery, the ears don’t usually change.  The ears typically settle into their final position about 3-4 weeks after surgery.

If you are struggling with  feelings of insecurity because you have prominent ears, it may be time to consider otoplasty.  Otoplasty will not only improve the appearance of your ears, but it will also help you live life more confidently.

How Much Does a Neck Lift Cost?

By Experts in Plastic Surgery · Comments (0) · Sunday, November 14th, 2021

Are you ready to fix that dreaded turkey neck?  A neck lift can rejuvenate the neck and take years off your appearance.  However, it is helpful to know the facts about neck lift surgery, including how much it costs, before deciding if it’s the right option for you.  So how much does a neck lift cost?

Neck Lift

What Causes A Sagging Neck

Neck skin loses elasticity as you age, and the underlying platysma muscles also become weak, causing sagging in the neck.  Aging in the neck may also be due to genetics, weight loss, or lifestyle factors.   A neck lift will tighten and define the neckline and create more youthful contours.  However, a neck lift may be combined with a facelift for optimal facial rejuvenation.

How Much Does A Neck Lift Cost?

The latest statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, put the average cost of a neck lift at $5,110.  The cost of surgery may differ for each patient because of associated expenses, which are not included in this figure.  Knowing the elements that go into the price of a neck lift will help you understand the reason for the cost variations.

What Goes Into The Cost Of A Neck Lift

The surgeon’s fee, and the extent of the neck lift performed, are two of the most important factors that go into the cost of a neck lift.

The fee the surgeon charges will be influenced by their credentials and expertise.  Board-certified plastic surgeons undergo years of study and have significant practical experience.  They also engage in on-going study and utilize the latest techniques.  Consequently, they charge more for their skill and expertise.

A more extensive neck lift will take longer to perform.  This will increase the cost of surgery, as anesthesia and facility fees are typically charged on a per-hour basis.

Other factors that determine the cost of surgery:

  • Anesthesia fees
  • Hospital or surgical facility fees
  • Medical tests
  • Prescription medications
  • Pre and post-operative care
  • Geographic location of the practice

When considering a neck lift, patients should seek out the services of an experienced board-certified facial plastic surgeon to get the best results.  It is critical to choose a plastic surgeon with the aesthetic sensibility to create natural-looking results.

How Is A Neck Lift Performed?

Neck lift surgery is typically done under general anesthesia and the incision made behind the ears.  During the operation, the surgeon will remove excess skin, and tighten the platysma muscles and the remaining skin.   The procedure will lift the neck area and reduce sagging in the jawline and neck.

Is A Neck Lift Right For You?

A neck lift may be worth considering if you are unhappy with the appearance of your sagging, loose neck skin and would like to have it addressed.  You should also be healthy and have realistic expectations about the outcome of the procedure.

How Can You Get A Price For Your Neck Lift?

  1. Schedule a consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon who has substantial experience performing neck lift surgery. It’s a good idea to consult with 2 or 3 surgeons and then choose the one you are most comfortable with.
  2. Take a list of questions you would like answered about the procedure to the consultation.
  3. Make sure that at the end of the consultation, you understand the cost estimate provided and know where your money will be going.

Neck lift surgery is an elective surgery that is not usually covered by health insurance.

A neck lift won’t stop you from aging, but it will help you regain youthful neck contours that have diminished with age.

How Long Is Recovery From Breast Augmentation?

By Experts in Plastic Surgery · Comments (0) · Sunday, November 14th, 2021

If you are about to have breast augmentation, chances are you’re looking forward to seeing your results but wonder what to expect during recovery.   Knowing how long it takes to heal can help improve recovery and ensure you get the results you want. But how long is recovery from breast augmentation?

breast augmentation

What Is Breast Augmentation?

Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure that improves the size, shape, and symmetry of the breasts.  This is generally achieved using silicone or saline implants.  Breast implants may be placed below the chest muscle (submuscular) or above the muscle (subglandular).

Women often opt to have breast augmentation to counteract changes to the breasts that occur due to pregnancy, weight loss, and aging.  As a result, breast augmentation is often combined with a breast lift or mastopexy for maximum breast enhancement.  A breast lift elevates sagging breasts to a more youthful position.

How Long Is Recovery From Breast Augmentation?

Full recovery from breast augmentation takes an average of 6 weeks.  However, recovery time will vary for each patient.  Factors such as the placement, size, and type of breast implants can impact the length of post-surgery recovery.

The recovery timeline can also be affected by the rate at which you heal and your overall health.

Patients should closely follow their surgeon’s post-op instructions to ensure the best possible recovery.

What To Expect During Recovery

You will spend a few hours in the post-operative room for observation before being released, and will need someone to drive you home.

There will be swelling, tightness, bruising, and pain in the chest in the days immediately after surgery.  Pain medication and muscle relaxers are prescribed to help ease the discomfort.

Depending on the extent of the breast augmentation, drains may be put in place to drain out fluid that might accumulate during healing.  These are usually removed at the first post-op visit.  Also, a post-surgical support bra is worn to help minimize swelling and support the implants.

It is essential to get lots of rest in the first few days after surgery, and your surgeon will let you know what level of activity is appropriate during this time.

You can resume normal activities about 7-10 days after surgery, but you should wait at least 6 weeks before engaging in vigorous exercise, or going back to the gym.  Most of the swelling and bruising should subside within 3-4 weeks.

The breasts may initially look higher and rounder than expected, but they should settle into their final size and shape about 3 months after surgery.

When Can You Return To Work After Breast Augmentation?

You should feel better a few days after surgery and be able to return to work within 7 days. However, if you have a strenuous job, you may need to take additional time off.

Breast Augmentation Recovery Tips

  • Get plenty of rest and eat foods that will help your body heal
  • Plan to have a family member or friend with you for at least 72 hours after surgery to assist with household chores, as you will feel extremely sore and tired.
  • Wear a support bra as recommended
  • Take pain medication as prescribed to reduce discomfort
  • Sleep on your back with your upper body slightly elevated, as this will help to minimize soreness and swelling
  • Keep all your post-op appointments

Breast augmentation not only enhances the appearance of your breasts, it can also boost your self-confidence and improve your body image.

If you are planning to undergo breast augmentation, remember that recovery is different for every patient.  But if you work along with your plastic surgeon, you can enjoy a smooth recovery and get beautiful, natural-looking results.

What Is A Mommy Makeover?

By Experts in Plastic Surgery · Comments (0) · Friday, November 5th, 2021

Are you frustrated with your post-baby body?  You’re not alone.  Many women are unhappy with the body changes that occur as a result of pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding.  Having a baby can bring about some dramatic changes to the body that can’t be fixed with a healthy diet and lifestyle, but a mommy makeover can help.  But what is a mommy makeover?

What Is A Mommy Makeover?

A mommy makeover refers to a combination of procedures for women wanting to restore their pre-pregnancy shape.  The specific procedures included in a mommy makeover vary depending on the body concerns of the patient.  However, mommy makeovers generally focus on the breast and tummy, which are the areas most impacted by pregnancy and childbirth.

Breast augmentation, breast lift, tummy tuck (abdominoplasty), and liposuction are the procedures most often included in a mommy makeover.

  • Breast Augmentation –  Restores fuller, youthful contours to deflated breasts using saline or silicone implants.  Breast augmentation improves the size and shape of the breasts.
  • Breast Lift – Lifts sagging breasts to a higher position on the chest by removing excess skin.  A breast lift makes the breasts look perkier and more youthful.
  • Tummy Tuck –  Flattens and firms the stomach and restores abdominal contours by removing loose skin and excess fat from the abdominal area.  A tummy tuck may also involve tightening the tummy muscles that were separated or weakened during pregnancy.
  • Liposuction – Removes stubborn pockets of fat from areas such as the abdomen, thighs, and hips.   Liposuction may be performed using traditional methods or more advanced techniques such as external ultrasonic-assisted liposculpture (EUAL).  EUAL uses ultrasound energy to liquefy unwanted fat.

How Long Does It Take To Recover After A Mommy Makeover?

The recovery period after a mommy makeover varies depending on which procedures were performed.  Most patients need to take at least 2 weeks off work after a mommy makeover.  However, patients with jobs that require physical activity will need to take additional time off.

Recovering after a mommy makeover can be intensive.  Patients can expect to experience some swelling and bruising that can last for several weeks.    However, with proper planning and the necessary support at home, patients can have a smooth, successful recovery.

When To Consider A Mommy Makeover

If you are unhappy with your post-baby body and have been unable to reverse the physical effects with diet and exercise, a mommy makeover may be the solution for you.

Candidates for a mommy makeover should also be non-smokers and have realistic expectations about the procedure.

Doctors typically advise women to wait until they are finished having children before considering a mommy makeover, as pregnancy will undo some of the benefits of the procedures.

Benefits Of A Mommy Makeover

A mommy makeover often consists of a breast augmentation/breast lift, liposuction, and tummy tuck.  Combining procedures is an efficient solution as there is only a single recovery.   This makes mommy makeover ideal for busy moms who are juggling family and work and find it hard to take time off for recovery.

Doing multiple procedures together also enhances the overall aesthetic outcome, as several cosmetic issues are addressed simultaneously.

Another benefit of a mommy makeover is it combats a variety of cosmetic issues.  It rejuvenates the breasts, gets rid of loose skin and excess fat, reduces stretch marks, and tightens the tummy muscles.

Aside from the obvious physical benefits, a mommy makeover also has psychological benefits, as most women feel confident and happy when they look good.

If you have body image issues brought on by pregnancy and childbirth, you can improve your body and self-confidence with a mommy makeover.

What Are The Benefits Of Gynecomastia Surgery?

By Experts in Plastic Surgery · Comments (0) · Friday, November 5th, 2021

Men with gynecomastia are often so embarrassed they avoid fitted tops and try to conceal their breasts by wearing baggy shirts.  Working out may reduce the breasts to some extent, but it won’t make the problem go away.  That’s where gynecomastia surgery can help.  But what are some of the benefits of gynecomastia surgery?

Gynecomastia

Understanding Gynecomastia

Gynecomastia or enlarged breasts in males is a condition caused by an excessive amount of breast tissue.  It is a common condition that may not cause any physical challenges but can affect a man’s self-confidence and self-esteem.

In the majority of cases, the cause of gynecomastia is unknown.  Several factors can contribute to the abnormal growth of the male breast including,  obesity, hormonal imbalance, and the use of some types of drugs.

Enlarged breast tissue in males is a common condition that affects boys during early puberty but generally resolves without medical intervention.

What Is Gynecomastia Surgery?

Gynecomastia surgery also known as male breast reduction is a surgical procedure that reduces the size of the breasts.  Surgery involves removing excess breast tissue through surgical excision.   However, if there is also excess fat around the breast tissue, liposuction is used to extract the surplus fat.

Patients should choose an experienced board-certified plastic surgeon to perform gynecomastia surgery to ensure optimal results and reduce the chance of complications.

What Are The Benefits Of Gynecomastia?

Chest Looks More Defined

Gynecomastia causes men to develop enlarged breasts that make the chest look feminine, whereas the ideal male chest is sculpted and defined.  Since male breast reduction removes excess tissue and fat from the breasts, it makes the chest look firmer, flatter, and more defined after surgery.

Improves Confidence And Self-Esteem

Men with gynecomastia are affected on a psychological level, as they often feel embarrassed and self-conscious about the lack of chest contours.   As a result, they never go without a shirt in public, and some men opt to withdraw from all physical activities.  Gynecomastia surgery helps men with gynecomastia overcome their insecurities and feel more confident.  It also has a positive effect on their self-esteem.

Makes It Easier To Enjoy Physical Activities

After gynecomastia, patients feel comfortable engaging in physical activities they once avoided.   They are more eager to exercise and enjoy activities such as jogging, playing tennis, and weight lifting, as there are no unpleasant side-effects.  Consequently, they are motivated to work out and maintain the new appearance of their chest.

Long-Lasting Results

The results of gynecomastia surgery are generally long-lasting because the superfluous glandular tissue and fat are removed.  However, it is best to maintain a healthy lifestyle to maintain optimal results.  If fat contributed to the enlargement of the breast, patients should avoid gaining too much weight in the future as this will cause the remaining fat cells to expand.

When Will You See Results?

Although there will be some post-op swelling after gynecomastia, improvements in the chest contours will be visible immediately after treatment.   When the swelling resolves after about 2 weeks, the full results can be seen.

What To Expect After Gynecomastia Surgery?

It typically takes 2-4 weeks to recover from gynecomastia surgery.  Patients can usually return to work after about one week, but those with physically demanding jobs may need additional time off.   Also, heavy lifting should be avoided for at least 6 weeks.

During recovery, patients are required to wear a compression garment to help minimize swelling and support the new chest contours.

If you are interested in surgical correction for extra breast tissue, gynecomastia surgery is an effective treatment that offers many benefits.

How Much Does A Facelift Cost?

By Experts in Plastic Surgery · Comments (0) · Wednesday, October 20th, 2021

If you are considering a facelift, being aware of what goes into the cost of the procedure is a critical part of preparing for your facelift journey.   Most people who undergo a facelift agree that it’s well worth the cost because they not only look younger after surgery, they also feel younger.  So, how much does a facelift cost?

What Is A Facelift?

A facelift or rhytidectomy is a surgical procedure that addresses signs of facial aging such as wrinkles, fine lines, and sagging skin.  Facelift surgery involves tightening the underlying facial muscles, removing excess skin, and lifting the tissues, to give the face a more youthful appearance.

A facelift reduces the appearance of jowls, refines the jawline, and smooths wrinkles and folds around the nose and mouth.

How Long Does A Facelift Last?

Although a facelift cannot stop the hands of time, it can provide dramatic, long-lasting facial rejuvenation results.  The results of a facelift last 10 years on average.  However, how you take care of your skin after facelift surgery can impact the longevity of the outcome.

Eating a healthy diet, keeping your skin protected from the sun, and using the right products for your skin type can help you maintain the beautiful results of your facelift for a long time.

How Much Does A Facelift Cost?

The average cost of a facelift is $7,467, based on the latest statistics published by the American Society Of Plastic Surgeons.  However, the overall cost can be much higher because this figure does not include related expenses such as surgical facility fees and anesthesia fees.

Facelift surgery is often combined with a neck lift to achieve maximum facial rejuvenation results.   Adding another procedure to your facelift will of course, increase the cost.

What Factors Affect The Cost Of A Facelift?

The surgeon’s fee is a major factor that affects the cost of facelift surgery.  An experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon will likely charge more for their skill and expertise.

The facelift technique performed is another factor that contributes to the cost of a facelift.  Some techniques require longer surgery time, and this will mean higher surgical facility fees and anesthesia fees.

The cost of facelift surgery will also be influenced by the geographic location of the practice, and the cost of miscellaneous items such as prescriptions, medical tests, and surgical garments.

If you would like to know the specific cost of your facelift surgery, schedule a consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon for an evaluation.  After examining your face and neck, the surgeon will decide which procedures are appropriate for you and tailor a treatment plan based on your unique aesthetic goals.

Before moving forward with facelift surgery, be sure to consult with at least two plastic surgeons.  When selecting a plastic surgeon,  make your choice based on the surgeon’s qualifications, experience, and reputation, and not on cost alone.

Does Medical Insurance Cover The Cost Of A Facelift?

Since a facelift is an elective cosmetic procedure it is not covered by insurance.  However, flexible financing options are available through companies like CareCredit and United Medical Credit.

Is A Facelift Right For You?

If you would like to correct signs of aging, such as sagging skin and deep wrinkles and folds, a facelift may be the ideal procedure for you.

It is not easy to nail down the exact cost of a facelift since several factors can affect the final price tag.  Therefore, if you are interested in a facelift, it’s best to consult with an experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon, as your cost will depend on your areas of concern.

What is Blepharoplasty?

Do you have droopy upper eyelids or bags under your eyes?  If you are unhappy with these changes and want to improve the way your eyes look, blepharoplasty may be the ideal procedure for you.  But what exactly is blepharoplasty?

What Is Blepharoplasty?

Blepharoplasty, also known as an eyelid lift, is a surgical treatment that can rejuvenate the eyelids and make the eyes appear brighter, fresher, and more youthful.

Blepharoplasty is generally done to correct sagging upper eyelid skin but can also be performed on the lower eyelids.

Upper Blepharoplasty

Upper blepharoplasty addresses sagging skin and puffiness in the upper eyelids.

Droopy upper eyelids are the result of the natural aging process and loss of skin elasticity over time.  The sagging of the lids is sometimes so severe that it affects peripheral vision.  Puffiness occurs when the fat pad that cushions the eyelid moves out of position and becomes prominent due to the weakening of the muscles supporting the eyelids.

The Procedure

The incision for upper eyelid surgery is typically made within the natural crease of the eyelid.  During the procedure, the surgeon will remove excess skin and tighten the underlying muscles.  The fat pad may also need to be reduced or repositioned to resolve eyelid puffiness.

An upper eyelid lift is an outpatient procedure typically done under local anesthesia, and takes about one hour to perform.

Lower Blepharoplasty

Lower blepharoplasty corrects bags and excess skin beneath the eyes and minimizes the appearance of hollows.

Bags under the eyes occur because the muscles and tissues around the eyes weaken over time, causing the fat to protrude.  Also, the laxity of the skin contributes to the formation of fine lines and wrinkles in the area.

The Procedure

The incision for lower blepharoplasty is made just beneath the lash line to allow excess skin to be removed.  The incision can also be made inside the lower eyelid.  This technique is ideal for patients that only need to reposition or remove fat.

What Is Recovery After Blepharoplasty Like?

There is typically bruising and swelling after blepharoplasty, which peaks 2-4 days after surgery and takes about 2 weeks to resolve.  Patients should use cold compresses and sleep with their head elevated for the first few days after surgery to minimize swelling.

Most patients can resume regular activities within 7-10 days.  Patients should follow the post-op instructions of their plastic surgeon to ensure a speedy recovery after eyelid surgery.

When Will You See Results?

Some improvement in the appearance of the eyelids can be seen immediately after surgery.  However, final results won’t be visible until the swelling and bruising diminish, which usually takes about 2 weeks.

Are You A Good Candidate For Blepharoplasty?

If you have excess upper eyelid skin and/or under-eye bags, you may be a good candidate for blepharoplasty.  Candidates for blepharoplasty should also be healthy, non-smokers, and have realistic expectations about what surgery can achieve.

Complementary Procedures

The appearance of the upper eyelids may be affected by the forehead.  As a result, blepharoplasty is often combined with a forehead lift/brow lift to achieve optimal eyelid rejuvenation.  A brow lift focuses on elevating droopy brows.

Benefits Of Blepharoplasty

Blepharoplasty improves the definition of the area around the eyelids by removing loose, sagging skin, and tightening the muscles.

The results of eyelid surgery are long-lasting, and patients are generally pleased with the outcome.   However, minimizing sun exposure, reducing stress, and not smoking can help to maintain the results.

If you are ready to do something about your tired-looking eyelids, eyelid surgery is an effective way to rejuvenate your eyes and refresh your appearance.
